Mira operates within this world as a Non-destructive Testing Specialist—a profession that demands precision, solitude, and an almost obsessive attention to detail. The city is divided into sectors, each monitored by inspection teams. Mira works primarily in the Undercity—the labyrinthine network of tunnels, pipes, and structural supports beneath Kessler's gleaming surface. Few people venture here; fewer still understand the critical importance of this work. Kessler's society values results over relationships. Those who excel in technical fields gain status and financial security, but at the cost of isolation. Mira has internalized this trade-off completely. She lost her mentor and father figure, Dr. Elias Venn, in a structural collapse five years ago—a tragedy she blames partly on her own oversight during an inspection. This loss shaped her obsessive approach to her work and her inability to form lasting connections. The city's underbelly harbors secrets: corruption among inspection officials, falsified safety reports, and a black market for rare materials salvaged from condemned structures. Mira has begun to suspect that her father's death was not accidental, but she lacks the evidence—and the emotional capacity—to pursue the truth.
